I see health and wellness as not just the absence of disease or of feeling poor, but a process, a journey, toward our full potential physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
You might get a high five from the doc if you come in and your cholesterol has dropped in range, or have dropped a few pounds; you can make his day with the demonstration that positive lifestyle changes have objectively improved your health outcomes.
Dr. Johnson believes wholeheartedly that health is directly associated with lifestyle choices, what we choose to eat and do. Science has demonstrated that a plant-based, whole foods diet, a diet that our ancestors have consumed for thousands of years, allows our bodies to best maintain good health by balancing our gut flora, supporting our immune system, and providing the proper nutrients for all cellular function. Movement and activity and exercise, also evolutionary necessities and habits, are also key to our bodies’ function in countless ways including, but not limited to, circulation to heart and brain and rest of our organs, sugar metabolism, immune function and cancer prevention, feelings of well-being and emotional health. Finally, getting good sleep and management of stress complete the foundation of healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Johnson is board certified in Family Medicine and has been in practice since 1992, all of those years in Orange County. He worked for a large medical organization for 10 years before starting a solo practice in 2002. He practices the full spectrum of family medicine and has worked closely with excellent specialists throughout Orange County, as well as outstanding ancillary providers such as acupuncturists, nutritionists, and physical therapists.
Dr. Johnson has been married for 26 years to Dr. Monique Johnson, a pharmacist who is a health and wellness manager at a large local health system. They have four children. He enjoys spending time with the family, cheering for the kids in sports activities, and doing beach runs with his wife. He is an avid reader.
He graduated Magna cum laude from USC in 1985 with a BA in English Literature, and went on to Medical School at St. Louis University. He did his internship and residency at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, California, where he was voted resident of the year by his peers in the final year of residency.
